Hi! I am

PRIYANK RASTOGI

My Story

The Origins...

One fine Sunday afternoon, back in India, during the good old days of engineering college, I was studying for a test with a friend. And he was being finicky as hell. And when I asked him what’s up with him, he said he doesn’t want to be an engineer anymore, rather he wants to be an actor. That statement of his kept me awake that night and many more nights to follow…

I always used to think, these actors, these big movie stars are some heavenly beings, some special god like creatures. But that night, for the first time it came to me, may be they are just human beings like me, human beings who were brave enough to follow their dreams.

For the first time I felt that there may be a reason why I normally spend a week (at least) under depression after watching a great movie thinking that my life is not as complicated as the character’s, there may be a reason why I desire to become a cop by Monday, a gangster by Tuesday, a forbidden lover by Wednesday and a drug addict psychopath by Sunday, there may be a reason why I don't feel happy about being an engineer for the rest of my life. That night for the first time I felt I just might have realized… my dream….

A Journey called NYC...

6 years ago, after finishing up my engineering school, I moved to New York, with a dream. And most certainly NYC turned out to be the city of my dreams. Not knowing anything about acting or performing arts, it surely was a bumpy road initially, but the warmth of the artist community of the city was more than enough that kept me going.

I still remember the excitement of my first headshot session, I still have fresh memories of the anxieties of attending my first acting class at Stella Adler Acting Studio. I still remember those moments of struggle, those moments of initials failures and rejections, those moments of not having any belief in myself, but I also remember not leaving the determination of keep going. And in the mix of all this, fate got me to the doorsteps of Larry Singer Studios, where I found my mentor, my acting teacher, my Godfather, Larry Singer. Who not only taught me acting, but also made me realize how much of a passion acting is for me, made me realize how much I love acting and it really is my dream….

The moment I called myself an Actor...

After 4 years of studying with Larry Singer, performing in many plays, acting in several shorts, it was time for me to prove to myself and to my parents that I am an actor. Oh yes, I forgot to mention, coming from a traditional Indian family, I was always scared that my parents will not accept this acting dream of mine, so I never told them, but I knew I will never be able to keep going without opening up to my parents. And I decided to do it my way, and that is how I ended up becoming a producer. I ended up producing a hell of a play called The Pillowman.

The opening night of Pillowman will be the day that will be engraved in my memory lane for the rest of my life. The standing ovations of the full house audience, the sense of pride in the eyes of my father, the sense of pride in my own eyes when I looked at myself in front of mirror, for the first time, gave me the confidence of calling myself an Actor...

It has been almost a year since that moment, and I have performed in several productions since then, and I can feel the confidence of being the actor. I know this confidence will be alive in me forever, I know this confidence will keep me going forever...
